Series Serie 03

Snow

Matter in its most silent state. An exploration of textures, cold light and emptiness through the winter landscape, where painting seeks to capture the isolation and the absolute stillness of nature.

With this series I take a turn within my work: I move my interest in water and light to their solid, frozen state. I have skied since the age of six, and that very early relationship with the mountains has shaped the way I look at the winter landscape: I can recognise snow in its different states, its texture, the way it receives light.

It grew out of my stays in mountain landscapes, where I reduce the palette to whites, greys and cold blues in order to focus on the texture of the snow and the silence of the winter landscape. Against the dynamism of the sea, here I seek exactly the opposite: stillness, emptiness and restraint, in works where the absence of elements becomes the true subject.
